From a single-unit textile entity in 1897, Century Textiles and Industries Ltd has transformed into a commercial powerhouse with interests in diverse industries. A part of the Aditya Birla Group, the business house is a trendsetter in cotton textiles and also has a remarkable presence in the Pulp and Paper and Real Estate sectors.

With an aim to deliver exceptional and premium LifeDesigned^TM home and office spaces, the company marked its entry into the realty sector in 2016.

Birla Century

Birla Century’s USP is the customisation it offers to clients in terms of the weave, design and texture of products. At its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Gujarat, it produces a wide range of premium textiles which have applications in personal apparel and household linen.

Century Pulp and Paper

Century Pulp and Paper is a producer of excellent quality writing and printing paper, and a leading manufacturer of tissue and board, as well as Rayon Grade Pulp products.

Established a 100-acre textile mill in Bharuch, Gujarat

Gross Sales touched a staggering Rs. 1,991 crore

The export earnings of the Group touched Rs. 384 crore

The fourth cement plant was commissioned at Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, with a capacity of 1 MTPA. With this plant, the company became the fourth largest producer of cement in India

The cement division received the national award for prevention of pollution

Established its first vertically integrated cotton yarn unit with 24,960 spindles

1990

Textile Horizon, the internationally circulated magazine of the Textile Institute in Manchester, chose Century as ‘the finest textile mill in the world’.

1990

The caustic soda plant underwent capacity expansion to manufacture caustic soda through the membrane cell technology process.

1987

To reflect different industrial activities, the company was renamed as ‘Century Textiles and Industries Ltd’

1985

The third cement plant was established at Chandrapur, Maharashtra, with a capacity of 1 MTPA of Portland cement under the brand name Manikgarh cement

1984

The Group entered the pulp and paper sector with a plant spread over 400 acres of land in Lalkuan, Uttar Pradesh

1982

The shipping division of the Group commenced operations

1980

The second cement plant was established at Satna, Madhya Pradesh, with a capacity of 0.8 MTPA of Portland cement under the brand name Maihar cement

1974

Entered the cement sector as Century Cements with its first cement plant at Baikunth, then in Madhya Pradesh, to produce 0.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of Portland cement under the brand name Birla Gold

Diversified into chemicals

An additional plant was established for producing caustic soda through mercury cell process

1963

A plant was established with state-of-the-art technology to manufacture viscose tyre yarn/cord. The technology was developed in collaboration with Algemene Kuntzidjeume NV of Netherlands and Glanzstoff AG of Germany.
